Drywall Repair in Northern Virginia
Holes, cracks, nail pops and water stains disappear before the first coat goes on. We patch, skim, sand and match the texture so the repair is invisible under paint.

What We Repair
Doorknob holes, nail pops, settling cracks above doors and windows, dented corner bead, water-stained ceilings once the leak has been fixed, and the rough openings electricians and plumbers leave behind. We replace sections of damaged drywall, re-tape failed seams, and skim-coat walls scarred by wallpaper removal or years of touch-ups. Popcorn ceilings can be scraped and finished smooth in the same visit. Nail pops and hairline cracks are routine in newer Loudoun and Prince William townhomes as the framing dries and settles; older homes inside the Beltway bring layers of old patches that need skimming rather than filling. Drywall repair is offered on its own or bundled with interior painting, and it is usually the first step of a repaint, because fresh paint highlights every flaw it does not hide.
How We Repair and Finish
Small holes get a setting-type compound that hardens without shrinking; larger openings get a new piece of drywall screwed to backing, then taped and mudded. We open up cracks, tape them with mesh or paper, and feather the compound out wide so the line does not telegraph through the paint. Every repair gets several thin coats with drying time between them, sanding with dust extraction, and a check under raking light. Textured walls and ceilings are matched with the same knockdown, orange-peel or skip-trowel pattern as the surrounding surface. Patches are primed with a drywall primer before paint so the sheen reads even across the wall — skipping that step is why so many repairs flash.
What to Expect
Drywall work happens in stages because joint compound has to dry between coats, so a typical repair spans two or three short visits over a few days rather than one long one. We contain dust with plastic and a vacuum sander, protect floors and furniture, and clean up after every session. When the repair is part of a repaint, we sequence the coats so painting starts as soon as the last patch is sanded and primed. Water damage is repaired only after you have confirmed the leak is fixed; if we see signs of ongoing moisture or mold, we stop and tell you. Once painted, the patch should be impossible to find.

Straight answers to the questions we hear most often about this service.
Will the repair be visible after painting?
It should not be. We feather the compound well beyond the damage, match any texture, and prime the patch so it takes paint the same way as the surrounding wall. The one thing paint cannot hide is a patch that was never primed, which is why priming is part of every repair.
Can you fix water-damaged drywall and ceilings?
Yes, once the leak is repaired. Stained but solid drywall is sealed with a stain-blocking primer and repainted; soft, sagging or crumbling sections are cut out and replaced. If we find damp insulation or mold behind the surface, we stop and tell you so it can be addressed first.
How long does drywall repair take?
Joint compound has to dry between coats, so most repairs take two or three short visits over a few days rather than a single session. Small patches can be painted the day after the final sanding. We give you the sequence in writing so you know when each room is back in use.
Do you remove popcorn ceilings?
Yes. Popcorn texture is wetted, scraped, skim-coated smooth, sanded and primed, then painted with a flat ceiling paint. Ceilings textured before the mid-1980s may contain asbestos, so we recommend a lab test of a small sample before any scraping, and we do not disturb a ceiling that tests positive.
Can you match the texture on my walls or ceiling?
Yes. Orange peel, knockdown and skip-trowel textures are recreated with the same tools and compound consistency, then blended into the surrounding area so there is no hard edge. Fully smooth walls are the hardest to patch invisibly, which is why we skim wide and sand under raking light.
